For best results, hair extensions need to be washed at least once in a week. This avoids any unwanted build up of natural oils. The bonded area should be kept clean and dry. When applying shampoo to the hair extensions, do not scrub it excessively. Gently massage your scalp and rinse downwards, in the natural direction of flow. After shampooing, the conditioner should be distributed downwards from the mid-shaft to the ends. This will help comb out tangles and will keep the hair moisturized and smooth. Avoid conditioning bonded areas of hair extensions because application of conditioners on the bonded area can cause the links or the bonds or the tape by which the hair extensions are attached, to slip. Always use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. After washing, the hair should never be harshly toweled in order for drying. Rather, gently tie a towel around the hair extensions and allow them to dry naturally with the moisture gradually seeping into the towel wrap. This will prevent the hair from tangling. Never go to bed with wet hair – dry them thoroughly before taking your hair extensions to bed. Any exposure to chlorinated or salty water in a swimming pool or a beach should be immediately followed up by a fresh water shower.
